How does a lead-based paint activities training program apply for accreditation?
A prospective training provider must submit a completed application and payment to be consideration for accreditation. The application covers accreditation to provide training for inspection, risk assessment and abatement. However, specific accreditation is provided for each separate type of training course – therefore, you must list each course for which you are applying, and submit materials for each course. Courses in different languages are considered different courses.

Training providers must offer courses that are consistent with the abatement regulations. EPA has developed model training course materials that training providers may use, as is, or customize for their particular needs. See the lead-based paint abatement worker model training course materials which consist of three documents: the instructor manual (in PDF format), the student manual (in PDF format), and the overheads (in MS PowerPoint format). The model training course materials are available in both English and Spanish.

EPA requires accredited training programs to notify the Agency of lead-based paint activities courses.
When do I have to notify about training activities?
The accredited trainer must notify EPA at least 7 business days prior to offering a lead-based paint activities course, and within 10 business days of completing the course. In addition, the trainer must notify EPA of any changes to the original notice:
- If the course will begin before the original start date, or if the location changed, notice must provided at least 7 business days before the start date.
- For other changes, such as cancelation or delay, notice must be provided at least 2 business days prior to the start date.
What is required in each notification?
- Pre-training notice for abatement course
- Notification type (original, update, cancelation);
- Training program name, EPA accreditation number, address, and phone number;
- Course discipline, type (initial/refresher), and the language in which instruction will be given;
- Date(s) and time(s) of training;
- Training location(s) phone number, and street address;
- Principal instructors name; and
- Training manager's name and signature.
- Post-training notice for abatement course
- Training program name, EPA accreditation number, address, and phone number;
- Course discipline and type (initial/refresher);
- Date(s) of training;
- Training manager's name and signature; and
- The following student information: name, address, date of birth, course completion certificate number, and course test score.
How are these notifications submitted?
As of January 13, 2025, it will no longer be an option to send training notifications by mail, fax or hand delivery. Notices must be submitted electronically using the Agency's Central Data Exchange (CDX). If you’re not already using CDX you’ll need to register first.
