Puget Sound Recovery National Program Office
About the office
“The actions by Congress acknowledge the national significance of Puget Sound and gives the EPA the opportunity to double-down on our efforts to support the many partners on the ground working every day to restore Puget Sound, and importantly underscores our collective efforts to protect Tribal treaty rights."
-EPA Regional Administrator
On December 23, 2022, the James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 amended the Clean Water Act by adding a new section titled Puget Sound Coordinated Recovery and establishing a Puget Sound Recovery National Program Office within the EPA.
The Puget Sound Recovery National Program Office coordinates and manages the Puget Sound Federal Leadership Task Force, as well as Puget Sound restoration and protection activities across the EPA.
We also coordinate international restoration and protection efforts in the Salish Sea with Canadian authorities, the Pacific Salmon Commission, and the International Joint Commission.
Federal Leadership Task Force
The action by Congress also established the Puget Sound Federal Leadership Task Force to enhance federal collaboration on Puget Sound recovery. The task force is co-chaired by the EPA along with NOAA and the Army Corps of Engineers.
The task force is responsible for developing a federal action plan and publishing a biennial report that summarizes progress, challenges, and milestones.
