EPA Regional Monitoring Networks (RMNs) for Aquatic Ecosystems

  • Regional Monitoring Networks Support Wetlands

Building the capacity of states, tribes, and other entities to assess the biological, chemical, and physical integrity of wetlands is an EPA National Wetlands Program priority.

  • Regional Monitoring Networks Support Streams

Stream RMN data serve a wide audience: state and local government agencies, tribes, environmental managers, researchers, policy makers, educators, and others.

  • Regional Monitoring Networks Support Lakes

Lake RMNs are being considered for freshwater inland lakes in the Northeast and the Great Lakes Region. Partners include states, tribes, the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Global Lake Ecological Observatory Network.

The U.S. EPA is working with its regional offices and with states, tribes, and other entities to establish Regional Monitoring Networks (RMNs) for freshwater wadeable streams, freshwater inland lakes, and wetlands. RMNs provide long-term baseline data at high-quality sites to detect trends over time.
