EPA's SmartWay Excellence Award recognizes exceptional freight performance among EPA SmartWay Partners.

SmartWay Excellence Awardees lead their industries by improving freight efficiency and contributing to cleaner air throughout their supply chains. The Awardees are chosen from more than 4,000 companies and organizations participating in SmartWay.

2025 Excellence Award Criteria

SmartWay Excellence Awardees are selected based on exceptional environmental performance as demonstrated by their annual freight assessment and emissions tracking tool submissions. Shippers and Truck Carrier Partners, in good standing, are eligible for the SmartWay Excellence Awards. This evaluation process will begin with environmental performance and also consider freight sustainability leadership actions.

EPA recognizes eligible partners in the following categories:

Logistics company, air carrier, barge carrier, and rail carrier Partners, as well as Affiliates, are now eligible for the new SmartWay Profiles in Leadership, a new partnership recognition opportunity.

2024 SmartWay Excellence Awardees

The annual SmartWay Excellence Award honors top shipping (retailers and manufacturers) and top truck carrier Partners for both setting efficiency benchmarks in how they move products and supplies and freight sustainability leadership.
