Peer Review for Evaluating 1,1,2-TCA; 1,2-DCP; TBBPA; EDB; and tDCE

In June 2026, EPA released draft documents supporting the risk evaluations for 1,1,2-trichloroethane;  4,4'-(1-methylethylidene)bis[2,6-dibromophenol] (TBBPA); 1,2-dichloropropane;  ethylene dibromide; and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) for public comment and peer review.  

SACC Meeting Information

EPA will hold a virtual public meeting on August 3-7, 2026, of the Science Advisory Committee on Chemicals (SACC) to discuss the technical support documents supporting the draft risk evaluations for 1,2-DCP; 1,1,2-TCA; trans-DCE; TBBPA and EDB. Additionally, EPA will hold a preparatory virtual public meeting on July 23, 2026, for the SACC and the public to consider the scope and clarity of the draft charge questions for the peer review. The supporting documents are available via docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2026-2246 on regulations.gov.  

Registration and Oral Comments

• Register for the July 23, 2026 preparatory meeting.

  • Oral comments during the preparatory meeting should be focused on the clarity and scope of the charge questions only. Oral comments on the draft hazard and exposure assessment documents and supplemental files should be presented during the August 3-7, SACC peer review meeting and not during this preparatory meeting. The deadline to request presenting oral comments during the preparatory meeting is Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at 12:00 pm ET. Please send a written version of your oral presentation by email to muneer.alie@epa.gov by Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 12:00 pm ET.

• Register for the August 3-7, 2026 SACC meeting.

  • The deadline to request the opportunity to make oral comments during the peer review meeting is Monday, July 27, 2026, at 12:00 pm ET. Oral comments during the meeting are limited to five minutes unless arrangements have been made with the Designated Federal Official, within the constraints of the meeting agenda, prior to Monday July 27, 2026. Please send a written version of your oral presentation by email to muneer.alie@epa.gov by Friday, July 31, 2026, at 12:00 pm ET.

Peer Reviewers

On January 5, 2026, EPA published a Federal Register notice requesting nominations of prospective ad hoc expert reviewers to assist the SACC with its peer review. The nomination period ended on February 4, 2026. After reviewing the nominations, EPA solicited public comments on ad hoc reviewers under consideration. Once selected, the biographies of the ad hoc peer reviewers will be available via docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2025-3358  on regulations.gov.
