Partnerships between EPA and the Agricultural Community

EPA partners with the agriculture community to protect human health and the environment.  We are engaged in a number of partnership activities, including place-based initiatives where we are working with the agricultural community to restore the quality of water, land or air resources. 

Partnership Programs

  • AgSTAR Program - Promotes the use of biogas recovery systems to reduce methane emissions from livestock waste.
  • Animal Agriculture Discussion Group - EPA and the animal agriculture industry are collaborating to enhance water quality protection through voluntary partnerships
  • Delta Farmers Advocating Resource Management (F.A.R.M.) - An association of growers and landowners that strive to implement recognized agricultural practices that will conserve, restore,and enhance the environment of the Northwest Mississippi.
  • Cooperative Extension System's eXtension website  - Helping Extension professionals generate a more visible, measurable, local impact.
  • Farm, Ranch, and Rural Communities Federal Advisory Committee (FRRCC)
  • Hypoxia Task Force (HTF) Partnerships with Land Grant Universities through the Southern Extension and Research Activities Committee Number 46 (SERA-46) Committee
  • The Fertilizer Institute's Retailer Safety Resources - tools to help retailers stay in compliance with regulations and ensure the safety of their workers and facilities.
  • National Clean Diesel Campaign, Clean Agriculture - helps farmers, ranchers, and agribusinesses reduce emissions from older diesel engines.
  • National Milk Producers Federation tool for developing an SPCC plan (PDF) 
  • Pesticide Educational Resources Collaborative (PERC) - coordinates the development of pesticide-related educational resources (i.e., manuals, videos, guides) that meet national needs. 
  • EPA Smart Sectors - Provides a platform to collaborate with regulated sectors and develop sensible approaches that better protect the environment and public health.
  • EPA SmartWay Partnership:
    • SmartWay Shipper program - Helps shippers demonstrate efficiency achievements, show continuous improvement, and learn best practices to become even better.
      • Video: SmartWay for Shippers: You’re in Good Company (2:07) - Learn how retailers, manufacturers and other Fortune 500 companies, participate in EPA’s SmartWay program as a way to assess and strengthen the sustainability of goods movement in their supply chains.

    • SmartWay Carrier program -  Registered SmartWay Carrier Partners measure, benchmark, and track their efforts to increase efficiency and fuel economy and have the documentation to prove it, giving them an advantage with prospective and current clients.

Place-based Partnership Initiatives

EPA is working with the agricultural community on a number of place-based initiatives to restore the quality of water, land or air resources. Each geographic area represents a unique set of resources that through broad-based support promise to create benefits now and in the future.
