Where EPA Works Around the World
EPA carries out bilateral cooperative programs with many other countries around the world. These programs allow other countries -- especially developing countries and countries with economies in transition -- to benefit from U.S. experience in developing appropriate and effective environmental programs. Strong bilateral relationships are critical to obtaining other countries' support for EPA's global environmental priorities.

Antarctica
As required by the Antarctic Science, Tourism, and Conservation Act of 1996, EPA has issued regulations that provide for the environmental impact assessment of nongovernmental activities (including tourism) in Antarctica, and that coordinate the information review of environmental impact assessments received from other Parties. These activities are called for by the Protocol on Environmental Protection to the Antarctic Treaty of 1959.
Asia-Pacific
EPA works with nations in the Asia-Pacific region to protect the global environment and public health. Our work focuses on building the environmental protection capacity of large and developing economies and population centers. We also collaborate on multilateral, regional and global initiatives with Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan and partner with the Asian Development Bank.
Latin America and the Caribbean
Our efforts in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) provide environmental tools and information to enhance the capacity of LAC governments and civil society organizations to help build healthy and resilient healthy communities. We work to reduce environmental degradation and its impacts on public health, especially for underserved and vulnerable communities, by supporting our partners as they implement environmental laws, policies, and programs, and meaningful public participation. These activities also support implementation of environmental cooperation mechanisms associated with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
Eurasia
EPA has a long history of scientific cooperation and engagement with experts in Russia, Central Asia, the Caucasus and Ukraine for over 30 years and continues to work in the region with governments and non-governmental organizations on environment, science and technology issues.
Europe
The United States and Europe enjoy strong and long-standing economic and political relationships and face similar environmental opportunities and challenges. Working together enables us to address environmental impacts of joint concern, achieve common goals on both sides of the Atlantic and demonstrate leadership to help create a cleaner global environment.
Middle East
Over the years, EPA’s environmental cooperation in the Middle East and North Africa has focused on capacity building regarding environmental governance, water pollution and water security, clean fuels vehicles, and pollution prevention. Our most recent activities have focused on solid waste management, public participation and crisis communication in environmental decision-making.
North America
The United States, Canada and Mexico collaborate to protect our shared North American environment. EPA implements environmental agreements and cooperative frameworks both bilaterally and trilaterally with Canada and Mexico. Together, the three countries work to enhance the quality of life for all citizens and to protect the environment, ecosystems and human health in North America.
Sub-Saharan Africa
EPA’s environmental program in Sub-Saharan Africa is focused on addressing Sub-Saharan Africa’s growing urban and industrial pollution issues impacting people's health, particularly vulnerable populations such as children and the economically disadvantaged. Areas of focus include outdoor and indoor air quality, water quality, and exposure to toxic chemicals.
