Alert
Super Typhoon Sinlaku Response
In response to Super Typhoon Sinlaku, EPA received a mission assignment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on April 17, 2026, to ensure the safety of drinking water and to coordinate and assess needs for wastewater facilities in CNMI. EPA concluded its field operations on May 7, 2026.
EPA completed assessments of available drinking water systems on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, and worked with local authorities to restore safe, reliable drinking water as quickly as possible. EPA provided scientific support to local agencies tasked with ensuring safe drinking water is available across Saipan; this work included sampling drinking water at restaurants, shelters, schools, drinking water purveyors, and temporary drinking water treatment locations.
Boil water notices remain in effect for Saipan and Tinian. Bottled water is available at shelters and community sites, and public filling stations are open in Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.
