U.S.-Canada Cooperation and Salish Sea Action Plan
In 2000, EPA and Environment and Climate Change Canada signed a Joint Statement of Cooperation on the Georgia Basin and Puget Sound Ecosystem (pdf) that outlines a shared vision for the health of the transboundary ecosystem and commits to cooperation between the two agencies. This agreement calls for the two agencies to develop and periodically update the Salish Sea Action Plan to achieve the goals outlined in the Statement of Cooperation.
EPA and Environment and Climate Change Canada co-chair a working group that develops and updates the Salish Sea Action Plan. The working group includes advisory members from organizations that – while not parties to the Statement of Cooperation – can help effectively implement its goals.

Health of the Salish Sea
The Health of the Salish Sea Ecosystem Report is a collaboration between EPA and Environment Climate Change Canada under the Salish Sea Action Plan to report to the public on the health of our shared ecosystem.
The report is unique in its focus on the entire Salish Sea ecosystem with an emphasis on collaboration across the U.S.-Canada international border. The report tracks trends for a range of environmental indicators, such as freshwater quality and Chinook salmon.
International Airshed Strategy
The U.S.- Canada Statement of Intent on a Georgia Basin-Puget Sound International Airshed Strategy (pdf) reflects EPA and Environment and Climate Change Canada’s intent to work collaboratively to address air quality issues in the Georgia Basin-Puget Sound region.
