Why WaterSense Labeled Homes?

Homes along streets.

WaterSense labeled homes benefit people who live in them, as well as the broader community, making them a smart move for everyone. Proven strategies to save water mean that WaterSense labeled homes cost less to live in than comparable typical homes and meet homeowner expectations. As water and energy utility costs continue to increase, labeled homes can provide homeowners peace of mind because they can provide more savings than installing water-efficient products alone, and have demonstrated savings and satisfaction over time.

WaterSense labeled homes also help stretch local water resources while meeting housing demands. This means communities can add more housing before incurring additional costly infrastructure upgrades or depleting their water supply.

WaterSense Labeled Homes Save

The drops-to-watts connection adds a powerful appeal to WaterSense labeled homes, which feature an efficient hot water distribution system and WaterSense labeled showerheads and faucets.

For homeowners, residents, and anyone paying the utility bills; one of the best parts of WaterSense labeled homes is that they save both water and energy! This makes them more affordable to live in than comparable homes.

  • WaterSense Labeled Homes Save Energy and Water infographic (on the right) illustrates how WaterSense labeled homes reduce both water and energy use.
  • The Energy in Water infographic provides details about how much energy it takes to move water through your utility’s distribution system to get it to your home, how using water also uses energy, and how you can save both water and energy with WaterSense.

A Whole-Home Solution Throughout the Country

WaterSense labeled homes maximize efficiency at the lowest-cost intervention point (usually when the home is designed and built) and in a way that makes the most sense in any region of the country. Builders can choose from many indoor and outdoor water-efficient features and strategies to meet the 30 percent efficiency requirement, depending on the home certification organization they use. EPA developed fact sheets to communicate the benefits of labeled homes and how they deliver water efficiency and performance across the country compared to a typical home or one that only installs WaterSense labeled products.

Build More With Less

WaterSense labeled homes can serve as a strategic tool for land use planners, water district managers, and others seeking to protect existing water resources while meeting new housing needs. Read EPA’s fact sheet to learn how communities may be able to build more homes by promoting the construction of labeled homes:
